Career of the moment

Position: Copy Editor & Entertainment Editor

How I got here: Wow! Long story but in a nutshell, I've been reading seventeen since it first came out in SA in 2003. I've always known I wanted to follow a career with the written word so when seventeen ran a feature called 'A Day In The Life Of...' I applied immediately. I got to be a magazine journo for a day, hanging out with the team and even writing my first ever article (both articles are in the April 2004 issue). When I matriculated, I studied a BA in Film & Media Production and followed it up with Honours in Media Theory and Research. Towards the end of my final year of study, seventeen offered me a long-term internship in their features department and I've been here ever since! Throughout my four years of study, I concentrated on music journalism so when I got offered the position of entertainment editor this year, I jumped at the chance. I love copy-editing – because I'm a stickler for grammar, spelling and punctuation – but I've missed writing so doing the entertainment for seventeen combines my love of writing with my background in music and entertainment journalism.

I love my job because... I get to meet interesting people, read inspiring stories and play with language! Plus, free movie screenings and cool books and CDs don't hurt either.

The thing that drives me crazy is... Chasing the fashion and beauty girls for missing credits and copy. Ha ha!

You'll love my job if you... don't mind working crazy hours to get pages ready or giving up weekends with your friends to attend an event.
