Locnville answers readers' questions about girls, their new album Running to Midnight and their (bad) habits.
Compiled by Zainab Slemang
First up, Brian:
Gabi (15): What’s your fave song on the new album?
Brian: Seriously tough question. Our last album, I know I had a definite favourite. This album is kind of the amalgamation of all of my favourite songs. It would actually be hard to choose a favourite single so I’m going to have to say all of the tracks are my favourite.
Kim (17): Tell us five things about your brother that people don’t know.
Brian: Well, I can’t say that because I don’t know them. [Laughs]
Okay then, tell us two things about your brother that other people don’t really know.
Brian: I can tell you that he’s a very open-minded person. I don’t know if everyone knows that. I’m sure that they have a slight idea, but he can also get very aggressive quite easily. So that’s also something that I don’t think a lot of people know.
Storm (14): What’s your worst habit?
Brian: Worst habit? Probably smoking. [Laughs]
Lihle (19): Item/s in your closet or item that you love the most.
Brian: That’s also a tough one. I bought a new jacket recently, which I’m really stoked about. It’s like a leather jacket, but leather jacket hoodie with this cool pattern on the inside.
And the worst or least favourite item would be?
Brian: I’m sure I got rid of anything I don’t like. I mean, every now and then, I look through the closet and it’s like: ‘Okay, that I don’t wear anymore so that I can give away.’ So I don’t think I have any bad items at the moment.
Zulfa (15): Before Locnville and your MXit band III, what was your first job?
Brian: We didn’t like have a job job. It was more like doing little odd things here and there to make some money. We would freelance, doing anything we could just to make some money.
Chelsea (16): What characteristics of a girl would make you interested in dating her?
Brian: [Smiles] Happiness, I think, for me is a huge thing. ‘Cause you get a lot of girls that are so in that mindset, it’s like, I need to be like [makes a pout] the whole time. So for me, girls who smile. That’s like a big thing and then self-confidence and stuff like that. A happy personality, enjoying life.
Jade (17): Do you have any weird obsessions?
Brian: Weird obsessions? Plenty. [Laughs] But I can’t name any! [Laughs]
Zubeida (15): So, what things can you absolutely not live without?
Brian: Email. I cannot live without email. I need to always be connected, all the time. And good people. I can’t live without good people. I can’t be alone for too long.
Nomfunda (14): What’s the thing you love most about girls?
Brian: Pretty much everything. I like everything about girls.
And there’s not one thing that you’d change?
Brian: Sometimes I find that girls can be a bit over emotional a bit too quickly sometimes. And that I think is a bit of a glitch.
Kirsten (17): What sorts of things make you laugh?
Brian: A lot of things. I can’t say that there’s one thing in particular that makes me laugh. In fact, sometimes people look at me weirdly for it because I just find humour in very weird things but also good comedies. All the [Judd] Apatow comedies make me laugh.
Maria (16): What’s the best date that you’ve ever been on?
Brian: That was like, quite a few years ago. Probably when I was like, 17 but that also included a whole weekend getaway.
So did you initiate the date?
Brian: I initiated it, yes. [Laughs]
Casey (16): What’s the first thing you notice about a girl?
Brian: Eyes are a huge thing for me.
And now for Andrew:
Jo (15): So how do you feel about people who hate on the Villans?
Drew: I think it’s highly unnecessary and I also believe that you don’t reveal any kind of hate unless you feel something very strongly, so in a way I’m glad that people feel so strongly that they would even feel the need to make that hate public. But I have no respect for people who hate on the Villans because they’re people that caught on to a really cool look on life.
Zinhle (17): Tell me five things about your brother that no one knows?
Drew: [Chuckles] Ha! I’m not sure if I wanna say hey. [Laughs] He’s not very cool in the morning. [Laughs]
So he’s not a morning person then?
Drew: No, not at all.
Tanya (19): So what are your guilty pleasures?
Drew: I’ve got quite a sweet tooth.
Preshika (17): When was your first kiss?
Drew: It was quite a while back. Probably around 13. It was a girl named Brittany.
So did she become your girlfriend after?
Drew: Yes, for a while at least. [Chuckles]
Lebogang (14): Who do people say you look like?
Drew: I’ve been told I look like James Dean. [Laughs]
Gabi (15) What’s the first thing you notice about a girl?
Drew: I kind of take a full picture first, first time.
So everything, like what she’s wearing?
Drew: Although yes, not really in depth. Well I mean, first thing I notice is just like the face and eyes. Well they say you can see into a person’s soul through their eyes so.
