Ananda Paver answered: I'm actually studying on a bursary I won for placing in the Top 50 of the De Beers National English Olympiad, but my parents are paying my res fees (which, incidently, cost more than the tuition but less than it would to live in digs). I'm studying a BJourn, which is basically a BA majoring in Journalism with an added fourth year of Journalism Honours. My other subjects are English, Drama (which is currently my second major) and Art History and Visual Culture.

Maryke Bester answered: I'm studying jewellery design and my parents are paying. When I was a born they decided that I would go to varsity and they've been saving up ever since.

Botshelo Ditsele answered: I managed to get a bursary that covers my tuition, accommodation, meals and all other academic expenses. I'm studying Chemical Engineering. I'd advise you to start applying for bursaries ASAP if you don't have one yet. Best of luck.

Gugu Mothobi answered: There are many options for you to pay for your fees: 1) if you study hard in your matric year and get good marks you can get a bursary, 2) you can also get 100% off your fees from the university (merit bursary) if you have good marks, 3) apply to Eduloan for a loan, 4) apply to NSFAS (National student financial aid scheme) for a loan that can convert to a bursary, 5) apply to any of the commercial banks for loan, 6) apply to companies that deal with your course of study (but you must work for them once you are done or ask your parents' employer.)

I am studying Bcom Accounting at UJ and it is not difficult but very challenging. I did not take out a student loan because the bank refused to give my parents the money. My parents are paying for my fees. If you planning on coming to uni next year, come to the UJ open day on the 14th of May 2011 to get the vibe and see if you want this. Ps. try to see as many universities as you can and good luck with exams if you in matric.
