Q:I've been with my BF for 15 months and our relationship hasn't been sexual yet. How do you know when you're ready?
One of the best ways of knowing if you are ready to have sex is by looking at your relationship. The four statements below, describe a couple that could be considered ready to have sex:
1. Two people in a committed, loving relationship that has developed over time.
2. Two people that are legally old enough to have sex (16).3. Two people that are mature enough to have a conversation about their mutual choice to become sexually active well in advance of them taking that final step.
4. Two people that take responsibility for contraception when they have made the choice to become sexually active.
I would recommend that you find a mature adult that you can have an open talk with and ask for some advice and guidance. Not all older people are wiser, but many of them are! Ask them to tell you about their experiences – how it was for them, what decisions they were happy with, and what they wish they could do differently. This is such a precious time in your life; make sure you are actively choosing how you want things to be, not just letting them happen!
